2014 Old Vine Zinfandel Watson Vineyard

2014 Old Vine Zinfandel Watson Vineyard
2014 Old Vine Zinfandel Watson Vineyard

This is Dry Creek Zin! This wine has concentrated flavors and is well-balanced. We pull this one out for our weekend dinners with friends.

Tasting notes

Delivers notions of red cherry pie, prunes, raisins and chinese five spice with a hint of hoisin. Full bodied, big, well-rounded and packed with plush texured fruit, it has just enough freshness and good length.

We are very fortunate at Cast Estate to be located within the very heart of the best terroir in the world for growing high quality Zinfandel. Luckily for all Zinfandel lovers, farmers have been planting this hearty vine in our area for over a century. So when we set out to produce a premium “Old Vine” Zinfandel in 2012, we didn’t have to go very far to source our fruit. In fact, this offering comes literally from the vineyard next door – the Watson Vineyard planted decades ago by Allan and Pat Watson. Together with consulting vineyard manager Joe Ramazzotti, the Watson’s toil in the vineyard to produce some outstanding grapes, including especially 2012’s vintage which was 100% purchased by Cast Estate.

This wine really reflects Mike's attention to detail. We do three passes when we pick this wine. Mike wants the grapes at perfect ripeness and because of the tight bunch of the Zinfandel grapes, ripeness varies from outside the bunch to inside the bunch, Mike takes the extra step in doing several picks on this one vineyard.
